 I wanted to build my capacity to work with Universal Credit claimants on the front line, becoming a work coach that specialises in vulnerable youth across the Vale of Glamorgan area.  Being on the front line of the welfare system, I have worked with extremely vulnerable people including homeless youth, asylum seekers, customers with mental health, domestic violence victims and have also been involved with suicidal claimants. This has developed resilience.  During the pandemic, as a key worker I have been redeployed to many aspect of the job centre including working with older individuals.  I am the Construction Lead, meaning that I work with contractors and developers to find young people employment and ensuring that they are licenced.  I currently promote the Kickstart Scheme a government programme aimed at finding meaningful employment for young people working with multiple stakeholders across government and private organisations.  I lead the new cohort of work coaches to deliver Universal Credit services, whilst also leading the CWTCH group that promotes the office wellbeing and inclusive events.  I also lead a small team of outreach to provide welfare service in harder to reach areas across the Vale of Glamorgan.

 led a team of 9 individuals from different ages and backgrounds to address Counter fraud challenges in a positive and constructive way.  Using software such as FRAIMs to collate all data across the DWP platform and present into one coherent format for the appropriate compliance or investigation officer.  Provided support, coaching and effective feedback to my team members. Built strong communication between senior leadership that lead to a process suspending fraudulent claims and protecting £1.2 Billion from falling into the hands of fraudsters.  Led 300 investigators into enhanced verification of personal details to assist Universal Credit job centre staff ensuring that customers receive benefits quickly and avoiding financial hardship.

Hekima Place Trust is an orphanage and care facility for extremely vulnerable girls. It went from a handful of girls to over 400 girls of all ages and eventually built an international baccalaureate high school. Funding of the orphanage was mixture of international philanthropy and local partnership.  Developed new standard operating procedures (SOPs) to support the smooth financial, administrative and logistical functions of Hekima Place Trust. The guidelines which met Kenyan legal requirements were implemented and adopted by all staff.  Raised $400,000 from multiple US donors to create Hekima Hills Learning Centre, increasing educational opportunities for children in the rural villages and towns in Kenya.  Developed strategic partnerships with Kenyan businesses including hotels, mall complexes and religious institutions to promote community projects throughout Kiserian.  Created an outreach programme to address challenges faced by young people across Kenya. The programme was approved by US donors and preventative processes put in place to tackle domestic abuse, the spread of HIV and alcohol abuse.  Assisted the Executive Director in the development of the 2017-18 budget including drafting of the detailed budget for development of the school.

Mercy Corps is an international organisation that specialise in humanitarian response and capacity building. Based in the US, most of its 6000 staff operate in every continent. The goal of Mercy Corps is alleviate suffering, poverty and oppression by helping people build secure, productive and just communities.  Undertook extensive research for the composition of a paper exploring the success of the ‘YES!’ Program in Uganda. Following key performance indicators created by the Coca-Cola Africa Foundation, I assisted the team in building the entrepreneurial skills of 2000 young people across Kampala.  Provided effective external communication to generate new partnerships with local businesses for the employment of 900 young people in the agriculture, hospitality, services and recycling sectors.  Drafted a donor funding proposal in collaboration with the Director of Programmes for a new project funded by the Africa Climate Change. The aim was to explore the development and use of bio fuel for programmes supporting vulnerable women in Rhino Camp Refugee Settlement.  Provided administrative support using the ‘Vision for Change’ approach set out by Mercy Corps. For internal coordination, effective communication in liaison with internal administrative and programme teams for finance, M&E, logistics, budget development, preparing authority matrices, procurement issues and creating concept note templates.
