GCE Ordinary Level
Nashville High School, Gweru, Zimbabwe.
I Passed 6 Cambridge Ordinary Level subjects which are Mathematics, Science, Accounts, Geography, Shona, and English. I did Woodwork up to Form 2 before we took up other subjects like Principles of Accounts and Extended Science. This was to prepare the A and B stream classes for high pass rates in future Advanced Level classes. I was also taught practical principles in the Science Club, where we did wiring projects. The Quiz Club increased my general knowledge of life and saw me participate in Secondary School competitions from city to city up to National Levels. I started to notice various natural talent from a young man's point of view and these competitions gave me a glimpse of tomorrow's leadership styles and characters. Sport played an important role in my physical fitness. I participated in the School Soccer team and the Long Distance 3,000m Team foot racing until I left school. Though it is now 29 years since I left school, I am still connected to about a quarter number of my former classmates.
07.1992 - 06.1996
Apprenticeship Training- Industrial Electrician.
Art Corporation Plastic Recycling Division, Harare, Zimbabwe.
I graduated as a Class 1 Industrial Electrician after 4 years of training. I was a fresh student from school and our Government through the Industrial Training Department made sure my training was in line with laid down procedures, monitoring, and accountability. The Government's policy was that not a single person will ever fail to graduate their Apprenticeship course. Low grades at College attracted a hearing from the Apprenticeship board, after which you were expected to improve before the semester ended. I passed the random Toolbox checks by the Ministry of Manpower Inspectors. I still have tools I bought in 1992 as an Apprentice. At Art Corporation I mastered Plastic Recycling, where we produced LDPE and HDPE for the local market and export to the SADC region. we also produced PVC conduit pipes and Polyethylene Pipes for Electrical wiring and agricultural irrigation purposes. Wastewater was managed well in that it was treated first before being drained into the city sewer system. By the third year of my training, I had mastered Electrical installation of machinery and accessories, Industrial Machine Repairs and Maintenance. Fourth-year saw me handling shift work as a Junior Electrician.
01.1998 - 03.1998
SIEMENS S5 PLC Programming
DELTA Corporation Training Centre, Harare, Zimbabwe.
I engaged in a 3 months training of SIEMENS S5 PLCs. I was taught to Programme a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and use it. We were given many options of programmes which we had to design and load into the PLC. I remember choosing to design the Star Delta control circuit which I had done using a hard-wired control system. Not only could I control my circuit Electrically, but there was also another way of controlling motors Electronically via a programme. With this computer language, I was taught to design a functional Ladder diagram which was an equivalent of the Electrical diagram I had come to know by experience as an Electrician. After succeeding in designing a functional circuit, we went through a series of creating faults to our programmes and circuits and learn fault finding hands-on. This was a very exciting phase of the training which prepared us for the practical industrial scenario when we went back to our various factories. It was worth it going through this training as this has given me experience with PLCs of any type besides SIEMENS. Later I would go on to use MITSUBISHI, RELIANCE, Allen Bradley, FESTO, and Koyo PLCs.
