Position : Senior Associate, Global Assistive Technologies

Position Overview

CHAI will hire a consultant to support this assessment. As Associate Disability Inclusion, you will work with the consultant to implement this work. You will support data collection, for example by acquiring relevant policies or data, and coordinating meetings with CHAI program and country leaders. You will gather inputs and identify areas for improvement. The assessment will evaluate disability-inclusion in our programs as well as from an employer standpoint. Once the assessment is completed, you will coordinate a series of stakeholder meetings to validate the report and develop an action plan with priority interventions. You will lead the development of this plan, as well as the prioritization of interventions. You will also identify what is needed to implement these interventions. As part of this overall process, you will develop information and education materials to build the organization’s capacity on disabilities. You may also organize events, for example at the occasion of International Day of Disabled Persons. You will engage with other global health organizations to gather best practices to inform CHAI’s future work. Once priorities are identified, you will assist with its implementation. This may involve developing or reviewing concept notes, as well as engaging with sector partners and donors. You will also develop a framework for monitoring progress at CHAI.

Key skills required for this job include: 1) excellent written and oral communication skills; 2) highly organized with excellent attention to detail; and 3) high motivation – willing to engage until a task is complete.
You will report to the Global Assistive Technology Team but will work on a day-to-day basis with other CHAI teams and external stakeholders. You should be comfortable to engage with senior management. You are expected to work independently, proactively, and flexibly, and have a deep personal commitment to producing the highest quality results. We are seeking a highly motivated individual with outstanding analytical ability and communication skills. This role is fixed term for 12 months with the possibility of extension. The base location is flexible to a CHAI program country, preferably in Africa, pending country leadership approval. Expected travel is 10-20%.


  • Support the successful completion of a CHAI wide assessment on disability inclusion in partnership with a technical advisor. This will involve data collection and facilitating/coordinating a series of meetings with CHAI program and country leaders.
  • Facilitate the validation of this assessment through stakeholder meetings.
  • Lead the development of a disability inclusion action plan with prioritized interventions.
  • Support the implementation of priority interventions. This may include the development and review of concept notes and technical documents.
  • Work with sector partners to gather best practices.
  • Develop and maintain a structured overview of useful tools and resources that will inform our future work.
  • Participate in regular internal and external meetings that involve disability inclusion.
  • Conduct high quality desktop research and analysis on our interventions and keep track of latest learnings and developments at the global and country-level.
  • Help organize relevant in-person meetings.
  • Prepare materials to present the findings, written report and PowerPoint, with internal and external stakeholders; update based on their feedback and input.
  • This role requires taking initiative to identify new opportunities and take on other responsibilities as needed and as requested by manager.

  • Minimum of two years of work experience in a fast paced, results-oriented work environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
  • Exceptional analytical, research and presentation skills for both qualitative and quantitative data. Proficient in MS Excel, PowerPoint and Word
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in a high-performance, dynamic environment and handle multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to interact effectively with business partners and colleagues from various cultural backgrounds
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, including ability to work independently and self-motivate
  • Highly organized with excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to be a team player, build strategic relationships and interact with individuals from different backgrounds.


  • Prior experience working on disabilities.
  • Prior experience working with senior management teams.
  • Prior experience conducting organization-wide assessments and leading the development of action plans/strategies in response to such assessments.
